In the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, in the Moyobamba region, a rare and fascinating variety grows at an altitude of over 800 metres: Pompona vanilla.
We travelled to Jepelacio to meet the producers and experience this unique environment, where this variety develops its wild, woody and spicy profile.
With its bold, elegant bitterness and almost cocoa-like notes, it boasts a presence that intrigues as much as it captivates.

Peruvian Pompona vanilla draws its identity from a unique environment. Cultivated in the heart of the Amazon under a hot and humid climate, it develops slowly within a preserved biodiversity. Its large flowers are hand-pollinated with care and precision.
Large wild bees also play a role, albeit marginally, in pollination, weaving an intimate link between the plant and its forest ecosystem. It is this alliance between wild nature and human expertise that gives Pompona its full identity.
Behind every single bean of Pompona vanilla, there are hands, families and a legacy of passed-down knowledge. An exceptional vanilla is never an accident: it is built, step by step, through a relationship of trust.
This is the key role played by our partner Sekut,a cooperative founded by Ashley Britton, alongside local farming families. This bond ensures that their know-how and intimate knowledge of the land are fully valued at every single stage: from rigorous selection and controlled harvesting to traditional curing that respects the terroir.

Discover Pompona through the portraits of two passionate producers, both members of the cooperative:
Doña Luzmila: A producer with a passion for orchids, she holds one of the largest collections in Peru.
"For me, vanilla and my family are united as one. It brings us together because it demands constant attention and requires us to closely follow its development."
Don Ruperto: A Pompona producer and highly skilled technician with a true passion for vanilla.
"It makes me proud, so proud, to see our vanilla on the international stage. It is a real motivation to keep cultivating Pompona."
Every single gesture matters. Every step, from cultivation to the curing of the beans, is carried out with rigorous standards and deep respect for the terroir. This is a precise know-how, passed down from generation to generation.

Pompona vanilla does not seek to replicate traditional vanilla codes. Singular and distinct, it deserves a bespoke approach.
Its plump bean reveals a wild and woody aromatic profile: an elegant, bold and lingering bitterness on the finish, enhanced by almost leathery, occasionally cocoa-like notes.
This is not the vanilla of childhood. It is the vanilla for the curious, for the adventurers of taste.
